The Pocono Mountains are in Pennsylvania, less than two hours from Philadelphia and New York City. The area has something for vacationers to come to every season, within the 2,400 miles that include trails, rivers and streams. You will find family resorts in the Poconos in the blossoming spring, warm summer or while enjoying the fall foliage.
Skytop Lodge
Family gatherings account for many of the guests at the Skytop Lodge, according to Activities Director Kim Matthews, and it’s not surprising. The resort has 5,000 acres for families to ski, sled, skate, swim, boat, fish, golf and hike on. Your family can learn new activities like Geocaching together in the adventure center, or the kids can enjoy the camp while you check out the spa or play a match on the tennis courts.
Pocmount
Pocmount is a family resort in Pocono, just across the road from Bushkill Falls. You will find indoor and outdoor activities for families all year round, including miniature olf, snowmobiling, fitness centers, campfires and barbecues. Kids of all ages will like the Sugar Mountain Pizza Grille. Pocmont offers Broadway-style shows in the evening. Their camp offer programs for kids from toddler to teen.
Great Wolf Lodge
Great Wolf Lodge takes indoor family fun to a new level if you are looking for a resort in the Poconos. The entire resort – which includes family size suites --- is centered around an indoor waterpark. Kids and parents can play at Fort Mackenzie, the four-story tree fort with spray stations; slide down the Double Barrel Drop; relax on the Crooked Creek lazy river; or power through the River Canyon Run.
Attractions
The Pocono Mountains offer many attractions for a family vacation beyond the amenities available at the resorts. Claws ‘N’ Paws Animal Park has daily animal shows during the summer season, a petting zoo and a Dinosaur Outpost to hunt fossils at. In the Poconos you will also find Bushkill Falls, with nature trails, waterfalls and boating; and Costa’s Family Fun Park.
Considerations
Pocono is one of the few places in the United States where you can find all-inclusive resorts. Many of the hotels include meal plans in their daily rate and activities are also often accounted for as well. Look online for special family packages and check with the hotel about exactly what comes with your rate – you may be pleasantly surprised to find there aren’t a lot of extras when you are at a family resort in the Poconos.
